Jon Stewart Critiques Trump’s Claims on Iran Negotiations
Jon Stewart has labeled President Donald Trump a “misleader of the highest order” over his assertions about negotiating with Iran. This came after Trump stated he had “constructive conversations” with Iranian officials, despite those officials publicly suggesting they are engaged in dialogue with him. Stewart dismissed the president’s claims, calling them “bullshit.”
“We’re stuck in this awkward spot of figuring out who to trust right now,” Stewart remarked to the audience. “In situations like this, I think we naturally tend to be skeptical of announcements from this corrupt and theocratic regime—I’m talking about Iran.”
Stewart aired a clip of Trump allegedly speaking to a significant figure in Iran, but he was vague about the identity of this person. “Top or top?” he quipped sarcastically. “That little detail really shifts the whole narrative here.”
He expressed doubt about whether Trump was genuinely engaging with influential figures in Iran, questioning, “Are you actually doing it or just acting like you are? That’s a huge difference.” He used a metaphor, likening it to handing over a car to someone who looked trustworthy but was not really in charge.
Additionally, Trump mentioned naming Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner for the meeting. Stewart challenged this, saying, “So you didn’t even talk to them? Your colleagues, who, frankly, don’t appear to be elite players, were having conversations with supposed big shots?” He directly accused Trump of lying.
“Donald Trump is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary liars this country has ever seen,” Stewart asserted. “He is our greatest misleader, yet the chaos stemming from this very real conflict raises doubts about his grasp on reality.”
Stewart expressed frustration over how Trump handles crucial issues, indicating a sense of flippancy that bothers him greatly. He contrasted this with the state of local infrastructure, mentioning the crumbling condition of airports, without recognizing that Democrats are currently blocking funding measures.
Despite Stewart’s criticism, senior diplomatic sources confirmed to other news outlets that discussions with Iranian representatives are ongoing.
