‘Whalefall’ trailer
The trailer has been released for 20th Century Studios’ upcoming film “Whalefall,” featuring actors Austin Abrams, Josh Brolin, John Ortiz, and Elisabeth Shue, with direction by Brian Duffield.
Josh Brolin begins his days with a focus on sobriety. The star of “Dune” shared that he attends a recovery meeting on Zoom every morning at 6 a.m., a practice he considers foundational to his life after battling alcohol addiction for years.
“Drinking became boring in the end,” Brolin recounted in an interview when discussing his journey toward sobriety.
Brolin recalled a significant moment when he woke up on the sidewalk outside his home, which led him to reconsider the direction of his life. “Which way was I going to go for the rest of my life?” he reflected.
He emphasized that attending these daily meetings has contributed to a greater enjoyment of life compared to when he was drinking. “I love being sober. I’m having way more fun now than I ever did drinking, and I never end up in jail, which is a real bonus,” he remarked.
Alongside his struggles with alcohol, Brolin has also been open about facing another addiction: nicotine. In a podcast appearance, he disclosed that nicotine pouches became a near-constant part of his life after he stopped using chewing tobacco.
He humorously noted that sometimes he would use them without even realizing, explaining how he would mimic a chewing sound in his sleep. His wife would hear it at night, and he wasn’t even aware he was doing it, saying, “I’m not lying — 24 hours a day.”
Brolin has spoken candidly about his journey with addiction in his memoir, “From Under the Truck,” where he explores the personal experiences that have influenced his battle with addiction and his path to recovery. Despite these challenges, he celebrates his achievements in sobriety and the improvements it has brought to his life.
With a career marked by significant roles in projects like “Avengers: Endgame” and “No Country for Old Men,” Brolin continues to evolve, currently starring alongside Austin Abrams and Elisabeth Shue in “Whalefall.”
