Former MSNBC host Joy Reid expressed her discomfort with biological males identifying as transgender using women’s facilities, admitting that she would be “alarmed” to see a naked man in such a space.
On the podcast Lead This Lead That, journalist Jack Reed discussed an incident involving a Black woman and a transgender individual at Gold’s Gym. He relayed how a Black woman, who was “kicked out of the gym,” encountered a biological man in the women’s locker room.
Jack Reed mentioned that Tish Hyman, the Black woman involved, described the biological male as “a grown man with a big penis.”
Joy Reid shared her experience from her time at MSNBC (now MS NOW), stating that she opted to change in private areas when going to the gym. “I always changed in a cubicle or something similar because I don’t feel comfortable changing in front of others,” she explained. She continued, expressing her discomfort seeing women in the locker room: “I don’t want people seeing me naked just so they can later run into me in the hallway. Then I’d come out, and there are women walking around, with their breasts not looking… um, perky, let’s say. They’re sagging to the knees, and some might even try to chat, and I’m thinking, ‘Please don’t approach me like that.'”
Reid added that encountering a woman with “sagging breasts” was alarming enough, emphasizing that she would be horrified if she saw a penis in the women’s changing area.
“Seeing a woman with sagging breasts is concerning. If I were to see a penis in the women’s locker room, I would definitely be taken aback. This isn’t about being anti-trans,” she clarified, mentioning how she would likely go to management to ask why a naked man was present in the women’s space.
Reid’s remarks come amidst her previous claims that Republicans are leading a “national campaign against transgender people,” which she labeled as “dangerous and evil.” Back in December 2024, she equated denying gender reassignment surgery to minors with “Nazi Germany,” as reported by various outlets.
