Joy Reid delivers an intense critique of Piers Morgan following controversial interview

Joy Reid Accuses Piers Morgan of Ambush During Podcast Interview

Joy Reid, the former MSNBC host, took aim at Piers Morgan in a recent podcast interview, accusing him of ambushing her. She described Morgan as “crazy” with race-related discussions, remarking that this tendency serves his predominantly white audience.

This confrontation occurred on “The Joy Reid Show,” after she appeared the day before as a guest commentator on “Piers Morgan Uncensored.” Reid’s criticism intensified when she felt that Morgan’s team had misled her. She claimed they promised a discussion about her new YouTube show and relevant political topics, only to instead focus on past controversies and race allegations against her.

She expressed her frustration, saying, “It was a cheap, mean, very Piers Morgan pivot to take the heat off the right and direct it at black women.” Reid maintained that such a tactic was both premeditated and unfair.

Although Reid acknowledged the importance of engaging with different perspectives, she criticized how Morgan sidestepped the promised subjects, instead resurrecting a controversial blog post from over 15 years ago. She didn’t anticipate him confronting her in real-time with accusations from conservative commentators regarding racist remarks made during her MSNBC tenure.

“This was pre-planned because they edited the piece; they were ready for it,” she claimed, suggesting that Morgan exploits such situations to entertain his audience at her expense. Reid has faced backlash before due to comments made in her past blog, which she partially attributed to a hacker but later admitted lacked evidence.

In her discussion, Reid reflected on the absurdity of dwelling on old blog content instead of addressing current significant issues. She implied that Morgan’s obsession with race had cost him his previous broadcasting role.

“I wasn’t fired for ratings from MSNBC; rather, I was let go after significant viewer backlash and petitions claiming I was racist,” she noted.

Joining Reid was Nina Turner, a former Ohio State Senator, who shared similar sentiments about the interview being a setup and criticized Morgan’s intent. “It was a jump for black women,” she remarked, echoing Reid’s discomfort with the conservative media approach.

In response to Reid’s allegations, Morgan acknowledged the interview did not go well for her. He later indicated he would address the fallout in his future segments. Overall, this exchange highlights ongoing tensions surrounding race and representation in media today.
