Joy Reid says the GOP is leveraging Nicki Minaj

Former MSNBC/MS NOW host Joy Reid has made several racist remarks directed at rapper Nicki Minaj, particularly because of her support for President Donald Trump.

Minaj has spoken out against cancel culture and has complemented the Trump administration on issues like preventing violence against Christians in Nigeria, but this has led to backlash from notable figures on the left.

During an appearance on “The Don Lemon Show”, Reid speculated on why Republicans, who typically have limited connections in the entertainment world, have aligned themselves with Minaj.

“They seem to be oblivious to Minaj’s presence, a rapper they don’t respect or even understand. Many likely haven’t heard her music, and if they had, they might be appalled,” Reid commented.

“The reason they’re treating her like a pet at Trump’s feet is that they find her useful. She provides them with ‘cultural coolness’—a significant aspect in our society,” she added.

After referencing other black cultural figures who have formed relationships with Republicans, Reid specifically critiqued Minaj’s position.

“Their next target is likely to be Cardi B, who doesn’t seem concerned about issues back in Trinidad, and who has shown animosity toward her fellow female rappers,” Reid stated.

“Cardi will never be Rihanna or Beyoncé. She’s a middle-aged black female rapper who, frankly, doesn’t show much regard for her community or immigrants, despite their status,” she continued.

“If they feel they don’t need ‘cultural coolness,’ they would drop her. The issue is, she’s not viewed that way anymore. So, to the Barb family, Nicki isn’t promiscuous, and no amount of fan loyalty is altering that perception. You’re upset, I get it,” Reid remarked.

“She’s not the one for the job, but they’ll keep searching for a black face for MAGA, fully aware that ‘cultural coolness’ plays a crucial role in their strategy,” concluded Reid.

Fox News Digital attempted to contact Minaj and the White House for comments but did not receive immediate feedback.
