Judge appointed by Obama stops Trump and grants Harvard and foreign nationals what they desire at the cost of America.

Judge Blocks Trump Administration’s Move Against Harvard’s International Students

A federal judge has intervened, stopping the Trump administration from halting Harvard’s ability to register international students and from dismissing requests for pertinent information.

President Donald Trump mentioned on Thursday that tensions had escalated significantly between his administration and the university, asserting that they would revoke Harvard’s accreditation for its Student-Swap Visitor Program, which facilitates the registration of international students.

In a statement, the university highlighted that about 27% of its student population is made up of international students, arguing that “without international students, Harvard is not Harvard.” The lawsuit, filed in Boston, stated that the government’s actions threaten a vital part of its community.

US District Judge Alison Burrows granted a temporary restraining order against the administration’s efforts, as the university contended that the decision infringes upon its First Amendment rights.

The lawsuit claimed that the order would have “immediate and devastating effects” on the university as well as on more than 7,000 individuals holding visas. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had requested information from Harvard related to allegations of violent and illegal activity involving foreign students and had set an April 30 deadline.

According to DHS, “Harvard will no longer be able to register foreign students, and existing foreign students will need to transfer or risk losing their legal status.” Harvard alleged that it had supplied “thousands of data points” to satisfy the governmental demands, but Secretary Christie Noem argued the university had fallen short.

The lawsuit included a vague assertion regarding “anti-Americanism” on campus without establishing a clear connection between these claims and retaliation against international students.

In addition to this dispute, Harvard is also challenging another administration order that threatens to cut billions in federal funding for universities across the country. A spokesperson for the White House, Harrison Fields, remarked, “Taxpayer funds are privileges, and Harvard is unable to meet the basic conditions necessary to access that privilege.” Judge Burrows, who has a background as a nominee from former President Barack Obama, remains embroiled in this case.
