Judge drops 3 criminal counts in Georgia election interference case against Trump

A judge on Thursday narrowed the number of charges against former President Donald Trump related to alleged election interference in Georgia.

Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee Fired Two charges were filed against Trump and one against an ally, which state prosecutors said they did not have the authority to prosecute.

“Trump and his legal team win again in Georgia.”

Stephen Sadow, Trump's lead lawyer in the Georgia lawsuit, released a short statement on social media.

“President Trump and the Georgia defense team have won again. The Court has determined that counts 15 and 27 of the indictment must be vacated/dismissed.” He wrote:

The dismissed charges alleged false documents were filed in federal court.

But Trump faces eight additional charges related to an alleged plot to overturn the official results of the 2020 election in Georgia. He and 14 co-defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Trump's legal team had previously filed a motion to remove Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from the case, accusing her of “inciting racial animus and prejudice against the defendant.” Agreed Arguments calling for her removal are due to be heard in December.

Willis is accused of lying about details of an inappropriate relationship with Nathan Wade, who was fired as special counsel in the election interference case.

In March, the same judge dismissed six other counts against Trump and his co-defendants, saying the charges were too vague.
