Tragic Shooting at Minnesota Church
In a heartbreaking event, the Minneapolis community is grappling with the aftermath of a tragic shooting at the Announcement Catholic School. At least two children lost their lives, and 17 others were injured. The attack happened during a mass when a man in his early 20s, wearing black clothing, opened fire.
Julius Randle, a prominent player for the Minnesota Timberwolves and father of three, expressed his sorrow over the incident. He shared his thoughts on social media, saying, “Prayers to everyone at Minnesota. I worry about these things every day.” It’s difficult to imagine, really. This kind of violence feels so senseless.
The Timberwolves organization released a statement offering condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and deepest sympathy lie with the victims, their families, and everyone whose lives have been transformed forever by this meaningless act of violence.” They emphasized that children should never feel unsafe in places of learning or worship.
The Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings, and Minnesota Lynx also voiced their support and dismay, all expressing a desire for a safer community.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara provided details as he arrived at the scene. He described the events as horrifying, stating that the attacker targeted children and families who were simply enjoying their time together inside the church. The gunman used a variety of firearms, indicating a premeditated attack on innocent victims.
While the shooter has died—possibly from self-inflicted injuries—the community is left to heal the wounds of this unimaginable loss. Children who were injured during the shooting are being treated at Hennepin County Medical Center, with reports indicating that at least four required surgery.
It’s truly unsettling, leaving many to wonder when these horrifying incidents will stop. The ripple effects of this tragedy will certainly be felt for a long time. There’s still so much to process.
