Juror in Sean 'Diddy' Combs case discusses the prosecution's RICO allegations against the rapper

Sean “Diddy” Combs Avoids Major Charges in Court

On July 2nd, a courtroom session revealed that rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs was not guilty of the most serious allegations brought against him. The judge noted that the prosecution had failed to establish that the music mogul was involved in charges of assault conspiracy and sex trafficking. Nevertheless, Combs was convicted on two counts related to engaging in prostitution.

A fellow jurist discussed the defense’s performance, stating that they successfully identified weaknesses in the prosecutor’s case. “There were moments when the defense really made an impact,” the juror remarked, highlighting a cross-examination involving witness Dawn Richard. The juror indicated that Richard’s testimony, as well as the way it was handled, was memorable.

Meanwhile, Combs’s lawyer, Nicole Westmoreland, pointed out inconsistencies in the testimonies of the prosecution’s witnesses. For example, Dawn Richard testified that she observed an altercation between Combs and his ex-girlfriend, Kathy Ventura, yet the defense highlighted that Richard had not mentioned any threats to Diddy’s life until just before the trial. “Was it a death threat that I couldn’t remember on seven different occasions?” Westmoreland questioned.

Richard’s friend, Briana Bongolan—sometimes called “Bana”—was also cross-examined. Bongolan claimed that Diddy had threatened her, but under cross-examination, she struggled to recall specifics of the event.

Another jurist who has been following the case for seven weeks commented on Diddy’s demeanor throughout the trial, noting that he seemed engaged and took thorough notes during cross-examinations. “Seeing him in person was completely different from what I had imagined,” the juror remarked, emphasizing that Diddy’s presence did not influence their fairness in judgment.

Looking ahead, Judge Arun Subramanian has scheduled a hearing for October 3rd, where Combs could face significant prison time—up to 20 years for each prostitution-related charge. The alternative jurist expressed hope that Diddy would seek help, regardless of the potential sentence. “He was depicted as a flawed individual,” they noted, adding a personal wish for Diddy to find the assistance he needs.

According to Diddy’s defense team, the artist is expected to return to a domestic violence program he had begun before his arrest in September 2024. “He’s fine,” stated his attorney, Mark Agnifilo, emphasizing that Diddy is striving for personal improvement. “He recognizes his flaws and understands that fame and wealth can’t erase them,” Agnifilo said.
