A Maine man tried to flee the courthouse in handcuffs after being found guilty of assaulting a one-year-old child, but two jurors and a detective prevented him from leaving.
Suspect Nicholas Carter, 31, was seen running from the Skoheggan Town Courthouse while handcuffed on Wednesday.
Carter was convicted of aggravated assault on a one-year-old child. Portland Press Herald. He was convicted after a three-day trial in Somerset County Superior Court.
According to the outlet, Carter, still handcuffed, jumped over the bars and escaped through a back door on the second floor of the courtroom, which is used by the public to enter and exit the gallery.

According to the media, detectives and law enforcement officers in the courtroom pursued Carter as he ran down the stairs to the first floor of the courthouse.
Several videos show Carter running handcuffed through courtroom hallways, dodging lawyers who try to stop him from escaping.

He was then seen fleeing through the courthouse's main entrance while being chased by multiple people.
Video footage also shows Carter running across a parking lot, across a road and eventually tripping and falling in a yard. Two bystanders, who were also jurors in the trial, held him down until detectives caught up with him.

Carter was remanded in custody and is being charged with escape in connection with the incident.
Carter's sentencing hearing on his aggravated assault conviction is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.
