The home of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett in Fairfax County, Virginia, has recently fallen victim to a disturbing “swatting” incident. This malicious act triggered a swift response from law enforcement, which quickly confirmed that the emergency call was a hoax.
On Wednesday night, around 9:02 PM, police received a non-emergency call claiming there was active gunfire outside Barrett’s suburban residence.
Officers reached out to security at the home and soon recognized the report as false, aimed at creating panic. Swatting is when someone falsely reports a serious incident to provoke a heavily armed police response at another person’s location.
“Officers coordinated with Supreme Court Police stationed at the house and promptly identified the report as fictitious. No further police resources were needed,” the police department stated.
This isn’t the first time Barrett’s home has been the center of intense protests, particularly from abortion-rights activists following the Supreme Court’s significant 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) commented on the situation, describing the swatting attempt as a dangerous effort to harm an innocent individual—a sitting Supreme Court Justice. He believes that the appropriate consequence for the offender would be a long prison sentence.
Swatting is an attempt to get an innocent person killed—in this case, a sitting Supreme Court Justice. The proper response will be putting the offender in prison for many, many years.
