A lawyer representing victims of Jeffrey Epstein has accused the government of withholding crucial information about his associates but refrained from directly blaming powerful individuals.
Sigrid McAuley, who advocates for multiple Epstein victims in a civil lawsuit, stated that the government has yet to release data gathered from Epstein’s computers and is unaccountable to financial attorneys and accountants involved.
“What’s truly surprising is the government’s awareness of this treasure trove of information, yet they haven’t shared it. I’ve been engaged in these cases for over a decade,” McAuley remarked.
She noted that the withheld files include materials seized from homes in New York and Florida, alongside financial documentation.
While figures like Elon Musk hint that former President Trump may be on Epstein’s “client list,” Attorney General Pam Bondy denied this, stating that the government does not maintain such a list and rejecting any suggestions of a close relationship between Trump and Epstein.
Epstein was known to associate with a range of influential figures, including Trump, former President Clinton, British Prince Andrew, and various celebrities. However, McAuley specifically highlighted Epstein’s financial dealings, which the victims are currently contesting.
She emphasized that “Epstein couldn’t have conducted his operations without assistance. He needed a lawyer to conceal his actions, an accountant to manage his finances, and he had a team that helped him maintain his illicit activities,” she explained.
While McAuley supports the government’s choice to limit information that could harm victims, she insisted that plenty of other evidence deserves to be made public.
“There’s a wealth of information about events in Epstein’s world, including who visited him, who he paid, and who he didn’t pay. That data hasn’t been forthcoming from the government,” she said.
Interest in Epstein has largely been fueled by conspiracy theories surrounding his death, with some officials from the Trump administration stoking speculation prior to their time in office.
A memo from the Justice Department released this week confirmed that Epstein’s death was a suicide, which has upset many of his allies who feel there is still more to uncover regarding the circumstances surrounding it.
