Justice Department moves to dismiss criminal case against NYC Mayor Eric Adams

The US Department of Justice is moving Dismiss A criminal bribery case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Adams has been charged with selling influence in the interests of the Turkish government in exchange for a luxury travel perk and an unlawful campaign donation. His former chief advisor, Ingrid Lewis Martin, was charged with bribery, money laundering and conspiracy in December.

“I always knew that if I was on my ground for all of you, I would be a target and be a target.”

Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove told prosecutors to stop to prevent Adams' efforts to deal with the immigration crisis in his city.

Dismissing the charges allows Adams to “give full attention and resources to illegal immigration and violent crimes that escalated under the policies of previous administrations.”

Adams' attorney Alex Spiro praised the decision.

“Now, thankfully, the mayor and New York can put this unfortunate and misguided charge behind them,” he said.

Adams had previously implied that the charges were politically motivated.

“Now my belief is that the federal government is going to charge me a crime. If so, these charges will be completely false based on lies,” he said in September. . “But they wouldn't be surprised. I've always known my basis for you, and I would be a target and I would be a target.”

Speculation sparked that Adams was trying to oppose the charges when he saw him visit President Donald Trump just before he took office for the second time at his residence in Marlago, Florida.

Trump was asked directly if he would forgive Adams at the time.

“Yeah, yes. I think he was treated pretty unfairly,” he said. “I don't know the facts so I'll have to look at it.”

The order said the charges should be dismissed without prejudice. In other words, he said he could raise it again later.
