Supreme Court judge Ketanji Brown Jackson has been smashed online by critics for some strange questions he asked during a discussion about his parents who rejected a controversial book in public schools.
Litigation defendant The Montgomery County Board of Education in Maryland violates the religious rights of school district students and parents. They opposed books that included trans and gay characters being taught to children.
“If schools teach that parents disagree, I have a hard time seeing how it burdens the parent’s religious movement.”
Parents, including Muslims and Christian orthodox supporters, sought to opt out of their children due to exposure to left-wing content, but they were denied by the district.
The parents’ lawyers argued that the school district was “persuasive instructions designed to indoctrinate children of petitioners who oppose religious beliefs.”
While most court observers agreed that the courts appear to be sympathetic to their parents’ demands, one liberal justice appears to be critical of arguments in favor of parental rights. Jackson simply I said The parent had the option to separate their children from school if they didn’t like the curriculum.
“I think it’s tough to see how parents burden religious movements when schools teach that parents don’t agree,” she added. “You have options. You don’t have to send your child to that school. You can put them in a different situation. You can homeschool. If you have the option to send your child elsewhere, what about the burden on your parents?”
Her video comment It went viral on social media, where many people opposed the position.
“You’ve been forced through taxes to fund education that fundamentally disagrees for all other children, and now you’re not given a very simple accommodation, but you’re going to have to pay to educate your children on top of it. Amazing. Amazing, amazing, amazing.” read One popular post.
“I don’t need to call religious exemptions just to protect my child’s innocence while they’re still in preschool or elementary school.” I said Another user.
“She’s confident that parents weren’t planning on putting their children in a ‘another situation’ and stopping paying school taxes.” I said Another.
Other snippets from the hearing have led many to suspect that the court will control the side of parents seeking opt-out.
Judge Amy Coney Barrett said the book not only argued for the existence of LGBTQ people, but also included advocacy on the part of the LGBTQ agenda.
“It’s not just about being exposed to ideas, right?” she said. “I say this is the right way to see the world. This is how we think about things. This is how you should think about things. This is like 2 plus 2 is 4.”
The judgment deadline is until the end of June.
