Justin Trudeau Proudly Responds to Son Xav Trudeau’s New Music Video, Clip Goes Viral

Justin Trudeau Supports Son’s Music Career

Ottawa: Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has remained in the public eye since stepping down in January, but this week, he’s taken a break from politics to support his son. In a recent Instagram video on his son Xavier’s account, Trudeau promoted the teenager’s new R&B single.

“I’m proud to see my son, [Xav Trudeau], pursuing his dreams,” Justin shared on X. In the video, 17-year-old Xavier, known as “Xav,” responds to his father regarding the release of his third music video, “Back Me Up.” In another clip, the two are seen together watching the new video, bobbing their heads to the music and enjoying a light moment. At one point, Trudeau jokes, “I think I missed one of the videos,” to which Xavier quips, “How?! I have to see that, man.”

Trudeau later revealed that he doesn’t manage a social media account himself. Xavier joked back, “C’mon! Who will run your Instagram? You won’t run it?”

The music video features Xav dancing with two others in a room adorned with newspaper walls. The beat for “Back Me Up” was created by 16-year-old Duava and Joey “Tekika” Boyer, who operate a studio in Ottawa.

In the video, Trudeau playfully teased his son, saying, “You know girls,” and recalled a story of a girl picking him up for dancing when he was younger, joking about how she mentioned dancing with “my son Justin.”

Xavier kicked off his R&B career in February with his debut single “Til The Nights Done,” followed by “Everything Inking” in March. Both tracks were produced by Daluwatte and Boyer, co-founders of the Ottawa-based Pathway Music Group.

Justin Trudeau resigned as prime minister and leader of the Liberal party in January, paving the way for former central banker Mark Carney to take over leadership. Meanwhile, the Liberals, despite being a minority government, secured another election win on April 28, marking the fourth consecutive year. The Conservative party, led by Pierre Poilievre, faced losses, and the NDP experienced a significant setback, leading to calls for leader Jagmeet Singh’s resignation.
