Kamala Harris Encourages Youth Voters at Event

WASHINGTON – Former Vice President Kamala Harris made a rare appearance at a youth voter summit on Friday, emphasizing the importance of staying engaged in political struggles. In a pre-recorded video message, she stated, “We spoke in less than two minutes about the need to stay in the fight.”

The summit, aimed at empowering Gen Z politically, featured appearances from Harris, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Rep. Locona from California. However, unlike her fellow Democrats, Harris opted for a video statement.

In her message, she affirmed, “We will continue to build political power, communities, and coalitions. We will keep challenging the status quo.” Harris expressed a commitment to fighting for a country that works for everyone and looked forward to working alongside the youth present.

Kaya Jones, a senior manager for the youth voter organization, spoke ahead of Harris and highlighted challenges the group faces. “The last few months have been really rough. Umm, yeah, let’s pause for that,” she mentioned, prompting a brief moment of silence.

Harris echoed this sentiment, noting that today’s generation has experienced numerous crises, from COVID-19 to climate change and gun violence. She highlighted the necessity of organizations that support young leaders and their aspirations.

Pelosi, in her remarks, predicted a Democratic victory in the House after the 2026 midterm elections, expressing confidence in their chances.

In light of a significant loss to Trump during the 2024 elections, Harris committed to continued efforts in the political arena but hasn’t disclosed plans regarding a potential gubernatorial run in California or a presidential campaign in 2028.

“In campaigns, we often say, ‘When we fight, we win.’ But sometimes fights don’t guarantee a win,” she reflected. Harris encouraged students at a nearby community college to remain committed to their causes and to keep in mind the context they exist in.

Pelosi, addressing the upcoming elections, expressed optimism about reclaiming the House, saying, “There’s no doubt that we’ll win together.” She referenced the significance of collective efforts leading up to the elections.

Current polls indicate that Harris is still leading the Democratic primary field, with former Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg considered the next most likely candidate.
