Sen. J.D. Vance, former President Donald Trump’s 2024 vice presidential nominee, said in an interview that Vice President Kamala Harris’ policies “are directly connected to what we’re seeing on the southern border.” Breitbart News Saturday.
“Matt, if you see it for yourself, you can see how her policies have directly led to what we’re seeing,” Vance said during a visit to the U.S.-Mexico border this week.
Vance cited several examples, including the fact that the Biden-Harris administration has halted construction of the border wall and halted deportations.
“She stopped deportations from day one in office. She stopped construction of the border wall. I mean, I saw boards of wall that weren’t built that were ready to be erected, and of course the Kamala Harris administration is blocking that,” he said.
“They have reintroduced catch and release, which only allows millions of illegal immigrants into our country with taxpayer money. And all of this has had the expected and desired result of effectively opening up America’s southern border,” Vance said, reiterating a point he made in remarks during a visit to Cochise County, Arizona.
Vance said he’s spoken to Border Patrol agents who told him effective border policy requires coordination of different functions of government.
“If we’re going to deport someone to their country of origin, which is necessary, the State Department has to be involved. If we’re going to authorize the Border Patrol to do their job, the Department of Homeland Security has to be involved. And if there are children who are victims of sex trafficking, the Department of Health and Human Services has to be involved. So all of these functions of government have to be coordinated. And that’s been Kamala Harris’ job – to make sure that whatever border law enforcement needs, the federal government provides it,” he said, highlighting Harris’ failures.
“She completely neglected to do that,” Vance noted, adding that it was no accident.
“This, too, was by design. They said they wanted open borders. They implemented policies from day one to get there and the American people have had to endure dire consequences. We can’t let them forget that, and we can’t give them another four years in office,” he said.

Vance said Harris has not only failed on the border issue, but is also being seen as the new face of globalization.
“She supported trade deals that moved hundreds of thousands of American jobs to Mexico, China and other places. What that basically means is replacing American workers with foreign workers,” he explained.
“And of course, her immigration policy accomplished the exact same thing. The only question is, are they guest workers in the United States or guest workers overseas? And that’s the crux of Kamala Harris’ economic policy,” Vance said, pointing to the dire jobs report.
“But what’s really, really troubling is that all of the job growth, if there is any, has gone to the foreign-born, while American citizens, people born here, have actually lost their jobs under Biden. So their economy is a disaster for everybody. But even though they’re helping somebody, they’re not helping the American people. That’s an absolute disgrace,” Vance said, explaining that Harris “has delivered economic policies that have impoverished Americans and allowed the Chinese to build their middle class on top of the American middle class.”
“That’s the design of their policy, and that’s what it accomplished. And that’s one of the reasons why ordinary Americans are struggling to buy groceries and pay rent,” he continued, explaining that Democrats aren’t looking to change the policy, but rather “double down” on it.
“They’re reinforcing 40 years of failed globalist leadership. Trump is the lone exception,” he said, noting he is the only modern example of a US president who has brought back manufacturing jobs and put our country’s interests first.
“Four years is a very effective policy, but we need to build a movement that allows Trump to govern for another four years and doesn’t take three steps back like Kamala Harris represents,” Vance concluded.
