Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign plagiarized the policy from President Joe Biden's campaign website and copied and pasted it onto the website's “issues” page on Sunday, seven weeks after Harris joined the presidential campaign.
As Breitbart News noted, Harris has been criticized for weeks for not listing her platform on her campaign website, but she finally posted it on Sunday, just 48 hours before the first and likely only debate of the presidential campaign, on ABC on Tuesday night (9 p.m. ET).
but New Republic The left-leaning media outlet Former Vice President Biden reported on Monday that several parts of the new policy section were copied verbatim from Biden's website, including one calling for Biden to be re-elected.
In an article titled “Embarrassing copy-paste plagues Harris' platform announcement,” New Republic Reported Monday:
Shortly after Kamala Harris released her. Policy Issues On Sunday evening, X users spotted something in the metadata, much of the text of which appeared to be lifted from Joe Biden's campaign website.
On Sunday night, X user Corinne Green wrote: Problems section Harris' Website Included Metadata The bill includes language encouraging voters to support the reelection of Joe Biden. appear It will appear when a link to your campaign site is shared and in your website description on Google Search.…
All of this creates the impression that at least some of the Harris campaign's policy language was copied and pasted from Biden's document, an embarrassing misstep by the Harris campaign, which began with the realization that a refresh was needed to boost enthusiasm within the Democratic Party. It doesn't help that the section of her website on Israel-Palestine policy appears to have been copied and pasted from Biden's document. Very similar Biden's The campaign said.
The statement calling for Biden's reelection was deleted, New Republic It said Harris' campaign had failed to live up to claims on her “issues” page that it represented “new progress.” In a separate article on Tuesday, the left-leaning publication declared that “Kamala Harris cannot continue her campaign like this,” arguing:
Even after Harris replaced Biden, the election was sure to be very close. But the narrowing of the polling gap over the past week points to a failure of her campaign. Harris had nearly two months to show voters who she is and what she stands for. But she played it safe, trying to maintain the positive atmosphere and momentum of the summer by purposely not taking positions on controversial policies. It's now clear that this approach is no longer working. As The Times' Nate Cohn wrote on Sunday, “Above all, voters say they want to hear more about where Harris stands on issues, but her campaign seems to be struggling to explain it.”
…
The Harris campaign finally, belatedly, recognized that this was a problem. On Sunday, they Finally added Her website now includes an “issues” section, which includes many of the policies the campaign has outlined so far, as well as sections on reproductive and civil rights. Unfortunately for Harris, the release Weakened In a simple but obvious error, the page's source code revealed that parts of the platform were copied directly from Biden's campaign page.
This is dangerous territory for Harris. Times Polls show that over 60% of voters want the next president to represent a “big change” from Biden, but only a quarter felt Harris represents that change. That makes sense, considering she's the vice president! But that means she has to work overtime to differentiate herself from her boss. Yet she's doing just the opposite. Unwilling to publicly break with Biden to criticize his handling of inflation, immigration, Israel, and more, she is simply positioning herself as a younger version of Biden. It's unclear whether that's intentional on her part or a result of her campaign being largely run by the same people who ran Biden's reelection fiasco.
News that Harris' policies were copied from Biden's website comes as she prepares for the debate and is under pressure to make a good impression after avoiding the media for seven weeks and giving just one interview on CNN with running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
