Vice President Kamala Harris faced a barrage of ridicule on Wednesday after repeating the phrase “kids of the community” in her latest play on wordplay.
Harris, speaking at the Hispanic Caucus' 47th annual leadership conference in Washington, D.C., offered few specific details about the policies she would advocate for in the presidential election.
But at one point, Harris spoke about providing families with the resources they need so parents can “raise their children well,” declaring, “I grew up understanding that a local kid is a local kid, and it should be in all of our vested interests to ensure that children grow up with the resources they need to realize their God-given potential.”
Many political commentators on social media were quick to criticize the statement.
Newt Gingrich criticizes Kamala Harris' 'jumble' interview and 'outrageous' stance on Israel, Hamas
“Why is she like this lol,” Outkick's Riley Gaines asked.
Author David Harsanyi criticized the remark, saying, “I call this tautology, but she doesn't even bother to use different words to say the same thing.”
“She's a deep thinker,” quipped commentator Carmine Sabia.
“I totally get why Kamala won't give serious interviews,” podcaster Tim Young said. “She's a stupid, messed up girl.”
“I grew up in the neighborhood, I'm a neighbor who lives in the neighborhood with the neighbors who live in the neighborhood,” radio personality Mike North said, imitating Harris' speaking style.
Harris dodged questions about lowering prices by talking up his “middle-class” roots: “Our neighbors take pride in their lawns.”
Other critics ignored the humor, arguing that the statement suggested a dystopian intent.
“Kamala Harris is reminding you that Democrats see your kids as their kids: 'Local kids are local kids,'” Red State senior editor Brandon Morse warned.
Market analyst and political commentator Jeff Carlson offered a similar warning: “Don't be fooled. This is Kamala's Marxist version of 'it takes the village'.”
This is just the latest in a long history of “wordplay” in which the Vice President has repeatedly and circularly used the word “community.”
Speaking at Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C., in 2022, she declared, “When we talk about community kids, they are community kids.”
Similarly, in 2023, he was ridiculed for saying, “Community banks belong in the community.”
