Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) told CNN's “News Central” on Thursday that Vice President Kamala Harris' policies would push the US into recession.
“Let's look at where we are today. Food prices are going up, energy prices are going up, housing prices are going up. The average cost of a mortgage in my district has gone up by over $1,000 a month. Under Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, it's $12,000 a year. So we need to get the economy in order. Of course, we have to get inflation under control, but we also have to bring prices down. That means we have to get government spending under control. Under Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, government spending has increased by $5 trillion. That's what's caused record inflation and skyrocketing prices for food and goods. So we have to get spending under control,” Lawler said.
He continued, “28 percent would hurt our economy. It would hurt our economy. Right now, our corporate tax rate is 21 percent. Tax revenues are at an all-time high. Why? Because a lot of companies are bringing operations back to the United States from overseas, including China. What we need to focus on, you know, is making sure we strengthen manufacturing here in the United States.”
Lawler added, “Kamala Harris' plan would raise corporate taxes. It would raise personal taxes. And she's proposing to massively expand the federal bureaucracy with trillions of dollars in new spending on top of the half a trillion dollars already spent in the Biden administration's first two years. Kamala Harris' policies would push us into a recession. No question about it.”
