Towns Adjusting to New Role Under Coach Brown

Karl-Anthony Towns has found a clearer role in the offense since the departure of Tom Thibodeau and the arrival of Mike Brown. It seems that the way Brown approaches the game is presenting Towns with different looks that he wasn’t really accustomed to before.

Initially, Towns struggled to adapt to these changes this season. However, he appears to have settled in and is now getting more comfortable with Brown’s system.

After a recent game, Brown commented on Towns’ movement, saying, “We want to keep him moving so he’s not just sitting at the top of the floor. If we can do that, I think it’s going to make the game a lot easier for him because he’s going to a place where teams aren’t used to doubles.” Brown emphasized that they’re trying to keep Towns active to maximize his effectiveness on the court.

The Knicks have been impressive this season, scoring 40 or more points in a quarter six times, which, as of Monday, was the highest in the NBA. Last year, they only managed to do this 14 times.

Towns reflected on their scoring success, saying, “That obviously should mean we’re shooting well and looking good. Guys are making stops and making layups. If you look back at a 40-point quarter, I think 10 of those points came from our defense. So it’s about us finding ways to stop and run.”

Additionally, when players like OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Mitchell Robinson share the floor, they have a strong net rating of 65.1 points, ranking fourth among three-player combinations in the NBA this year. As Jordan Clarkson noted, “They all do a great job of shrinking the floor… blocking shots, and they’re all over the floor.”
