Katie Zacharia, the recently removed White House press secretary, shared that her brief five-day experience in the Trump administration taught her children an important lesson about loyalty, even amidst ridicule. From her home in Thousand Oaks, she reflected on her final hours in the role, which abruptly ended on October 16.
Her last night in office aligned with the day following her eldest son’s birthday, and it included dinner with Vice President JD Vance. “It was a tough night,” she admitted, discussing her experience with the California Post.
“For me, what really matters is maintaining your character in any situation,” Zacharia expressed. “I want my kids to see that being loyal and true to yourself is crucial, even when it feels like the world is against you.” Her only press briefing on October 13 drew significant backlash, which she argued was worthwhile as an example for her family.
“They got to see me being a strong mother while facing international mockery, even from those we thought would support us. If going through all of that teaches my kids about integrity and loyalty, then it was worth it,” she said.
Following her sudden exit, she faced security issues at home as curious onlookers and stalkers appeared in her neighborhood, prompting her neighbors to intervene. When discussing her removal, she recalled Trump saying, “You know, there are other ways to make a living.”
Zacharia defended her challenging press conference performance, claiming she had only a few hours of briefing material to prepare. She received supportive messages from previous press secretaries like Kayleigh McEnany and Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who expressed sympathy for her limited preparation time.
She maintained that her appointment came as a direct result of her hard work in media over the years, rejecting any claims of being chosen through favors. Looking forward, she hinted at upcoming career announcements, promising to remain a vocal supporter of Trump outside the executive office.
