Singer Katy Perry posted an edited version of NFL kicker Harrison Butker’s controversial speech, which included criticism of Joe Biden, Pride Month, and diversity, equity and inclusion. Her version was edited to promote gay pride.
The Kansas City Chiefs player delivered an anti-politically correct commencement speech in mid-May 2024 to several hundred graduating students at Benedictine University, a small Catholic school.
Perry apparently took issue with certain moments in Butker’s speech regarding women and gay pride.
“I solved this for my daughters, my graduates and all of you gay people. You can do anything. Congratulations and be proud,” Perry wrote on Instagram.
In his speech, Batker said, “Some of you will be successful in the world, but for most of you, what you are most looking forward to is marriage and the children you will have in the world.”
“I tell you this because I have seen firsthand how much happier I can be when I ignore the outside noise and get closer and closer to God’s will for my life,” he added.
Inside her Edited versionPerry changed Butker’s statement to say that people are much happier supporting women and that he “didn’t say” that the majority of women are most excited about getting married and having children.
“Society is changing and people, young and old, are embracing diversity, equity and inclusion.”
Butker also spoke about Pride and Pride Month, saying there’s now an “entire month dedicated” to the “deadly sin of pride.”
Perry’s version was edited to show Butker saying, “Younger and older people embrace diversity, equity and inclusion,” and then, “I want to say happy Pride to you all.”

“To the women here today, congratulations on your incredible achievements. You should be proud of all you have accomplished at this point in your young lives. How many of you are sitting here right now, walking across this stage, thinking about the promotions and titles you will have in your careers? I would guess that the women here today will have successful careers in the world. I say this to you because I have seen firsthand how happier it is to support women. I am not saying that the majority of you are not most excited about marriage and the children you will bring into the world. The future is bright and things are changing. Society is changing and embracing diversity, equity and inclusion, young and old. With that said, happy pride to all of you and congratulations to the Class of 2024.”
