Matthew Stafford’s Health Sparks Conspiracy Theories
Matthew Stafford’s ongoing back problems have led to some rather unusual speculation. The veteran quarterback of the Rams has been sidelined throughout much of the preseason and training camp, requiring epidural injections for pain management. His wife, Kelly Stafford, has been openly discussing his condition.
On Instagram Stories recently, Kelly shared a Barstool Sports headline that claimed, “The Best NFL Conspiracy Theory on the Internet – Died a few weeks ago, and the new one has become the Rams QB1.” She commented, “I knew there was something different about him… @Ammortal_Official is wild.”
A particularly bizarre theory circulating on social media suggested that Stafford had passed away, despite a complete lack of evidence. It’s remarkable how quickly these ideas can catch fire.
In her post, Kelly also tagged the company Ammortal Inc, which provides recovery treatments for Matthew. Earlier in the month, he was seen using a specialized mobile femoral chamber in the Rams’ practice trailer, according to reporters’ photos.
This summer marked a significant moment when Stafford returned to practice fully padded for the first time. Rams head coach Sean McVay spoke to reporters about Stafford’s participation in drills, noting he was involved in 26 plays.
“It’s good to have Matthew there. He did a good job today. I thought he looked good. I really don’t have an update,” McVay stated. “We’re going to keep it one week at a day and at a time, but it’s great to see him today. Let’s see what happens in the next few days.”
Stafford has also been using Ammortal’s large abdominal ventricle device, which is designed for wellness and aims to enhance physical performance through non-invasive technology. He was not on the practice field recently, indicating ongoing concerns about his readiness.
If Stafford isn’t prepared for the opening game against the Texans, veteran backup Jimmy Garoppolo is set to take over as starter, with Stetson Bennett next on the depth chart.
The Rams wrapped up their preseason with a game against the Browns on Saturday, hoping to rebound from last season’s narrow loss in the Division Round against the Eagles.
