Kennedy Center Defaced in Planned Attack Following Left-Wing Reaction to Trump Renaming

Vandalism at Trump Kennedy Center’s Ice Rink

In the early hours of Friday, vandals damaged the outdoor ice rink at the Trump Kennedy Center by spilling toxic chemicals, leading to the cancellation of that night’s scheduled performance.

The substance, a dark brown liquid, has caused significant harm to the ice surface. Authorities found a gallon-sized container at the scene. While they’ve confirmed its toxic nature, details about the specific chemical remain unclear.

No information about suspects or motives has been released, and the U.S. Park Police are currently investigating the incident with the FBI reviewing surveillance footage.

Roman Daravi, the Vice President of Communications at the Trump Kennedy Center, stated, “Due to today’s targeted attack on the Trump Kennedy Center, which caused extensive damage to the outdoor arena, we unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s performance. However, we’re working hard to complete repairs so programming can resume tomorrow.”

The planned performance by the Montreal-based artistic skating group Le Patan Libre was specifically impacted by this vandalism. Although activist groups had pressured artists to boycott the venue, the company chose to fulfill its commitments. Founder Alexandre Hamel expressed that their financial situation does not allow for easy cancellations.

Richard Grenell, director of the Trump Kennedy Center, described the incident as part of a wider campaign against the institution. He commented, “This is so sad and unnecessary. @TheDemocrats are making calls to artists to cancel and are constantly attacking the Center. This is a calculated campaign.”

This incident followed considerable backlash after the facility’s board unanimously voted in December 2025 to rename it the Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Performing Arts Center. Since that name change, several well-known artists have bowed to activist pressure and canceled their performances, including productions of Hamilton and works by composer Philip Glass. Critics of the name change largely consisted of progressives, with some artists citing opposition to President Trump’s policies as a reason for their decisions to withdraw.
