Kim Kardashian Discusses Co-Parenting with Kanye West
Kim Kardashian has shared insights about the challenges of co-parenting with her ex-husband Kanye West, expressing ongoing concern for him despite their tumultuous relationship.
The 46-year-old reality star spoke frankly about their complex situation in “Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future,” a biography by journalist Jonathan Van Meter. He conducted interviews with Kardashian and those close to her over several years.
“Oh, I worry about [Kanye] all day. All the time. That’s the father of my kids, I’ll never not worry about him,” she noted, as reported.
“And that’s a big burden of having kids with someone who you don’t necessarily get along with. My kids would never know that,” she added, highlighting the weight of the situation.
Kardashian was married to West, 49, from 2014 until their divorce in 2022. They share four children: North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 7.
Despite their past issues, Kardashian mentioned that co-parenting has been fairly harmonious. “It’s been pretty smooth for a while. I guess because we don’t talk that much. But when we see each other, we give each other a hug,” she explained.
She emphasized the importance of letting go of past negativity while establishing necessary boundaries. Kardashian wants her children to have a strong bond with their father.
“I want them to think their dad is the greatest,” she said.
Kardashian also maintains a good relationship with West’s family and has an open-door policy for him, even encouraging him to visit and spend time with the children.
“Anytime you’re in town, come for dinner with us, see the kids as much as you want, take them out, come over and hang out. That’s their family. So I encourage the relationship with their dad so much,” she noted.
She even offered West the option to have dinner at their home or stay overnight to help their children feel more comfortable.
“Do you want to come to dinner? I’ll leave the house. Come and have dinner with the kids in their house so that they can feel comfy. Sleep over for a few nights?”
The ex-couple celebrated Christmas together last year, with Kardashian inviting West to spend the night on Christmas Eve, encouraging him to bring his partner, Bianca Censori.
“Last Christmas, I said, ‘Sleep over on Christmas Eve. Bring your girlfriend.’ I’m easy! ‘Let’s all do Christmas together,’” she recalled.
Kardashian plans to extend the same invitation this upcoming holiday season. “And I’ll recommend it again this year. I will sweep everything under the rug, all the horrible things he has said about me, so that the kids can see their father,” she indicated.
She expressed her ongoing concern for West’s well-being, noting that he “always seems to pick himself up,” but she finds it distressing to see him struggle.
“And I don’t think it’s going to get better. I pray it does. For my kids,” she added.
Kardashian communicates with West through Censori and his manager. West has publicly addressed his bipolar disorder and issued an apology for his past antisemitic remarks in an advertisement earlier this year.
Recently, Kardashian revealed that she has five nannies helping to care for her four children.
