Jean-Pierre Criticizes Democrats for Their Treatment of Biden

Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre voiced her frustration on Tuesday regarding what she considers a “betrayal” by Democrats towards former President Joe Biden.

During her appearance on “The View,” Jean-Pierre suggested that the treatment of Biden by party members contributed to his exit from the 2024 race. She described this treatment as “disrespectful” and “humiliating.” After Biden’s noticeable cognitive and physical decline was evident during his debate on June 27, 2024, many Congressional Democrats urged him to step down.

“It felt very personal to me because I was there every day,” Jean-Pierre remarked. “I want to emphasize that President Biden is one of the most decent individuals I know. Every morning, his goal was to improve this country for the American people. Regardless of how he is perceived, the way he was treated during those three weeks was just terrible.”

She expressed disbelief at how stark the disrespect was, especially for someone with such a long history in public service, saying, “I had never seen anything like it before.”

In total, 37 Democratic members of Congress called for Biden’s resignation, citing concerns about his ability to serve another term. This pressure culminated in Biden’s withdrawal from the race on July 21, when he endorsed Kamala Harris.

In their book “Original Sin,” CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson noted that Biden’s inner circle and fellow Democrats had been “lying” about his condition until it became apparent during the debates. Initially, media outlets like Tapper defended Biden’s health despite signs of decline.

During the debate itself, aides claimed Biden was simply battling a cold and later labeled his performance a “bad night.”

Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s personal physician, mentioned that aides had warned him that any further falls could result in serious mobility issues and suggested safety measures like longer walkways and wearing sneakers. Biden’s team stated that issues with walking stemmed from a broken foot in November 2022, although O’Connor clarified that the injury had fully healed by that point.

White House staff also prepared notecards to help Biden navigate interactions with reporters.

Jean-Pierre has consistently defended Biden, asserting that he is intellectually capable and actively engages with the press.
