Chris Bryant is in a familiar place On the Colorado Rockies injury list.
The $182 million DH has not been able to stay healthy since signing a seven-year deal with the Rockies prior to the 2022 season.
Bryant’s placement in IL for 10 days, retroactive to April 13, is reportedly caused by degenerative disc disease of the lumbar spine. This is a lower back problem related to spinal wear. The back injury was consistently the reason behind Bryant’s missed time.
IL Stint is Bryant’s ninth ever since signing a massive deal with Colorado three years ago.
Recently, he was placed in IL twice separately on the backstrain last season. In 2022, he also missed out on issues for nearly two months.
Of the 486 possible games, Bryant may have been able to play all three seasons against the Rockies. He was just over 30% at 159.
This season, Bryant has appeared in 11 of Colorado’s first 14 games.
The 33-year-old has been struggling to stay healthy since joining the Rockies, but he wasn’t always that effective when he’s in Diamond.
In 11 games this season, he only had six hits and two walks with 41 plate appearances without a home run.
Spanning a total of 170 games for the Rockies, Bryant is hitting .244 with .695 on 17 home runs, 61 RBI and OPS.
Before signing with Colorado, Bryant was the NL MVP, four-time All-Star and the Cubs World Series champion.
He also had a 51-game stint with the Giants between the end of the run with Chicago and a massive deal with the Rockies.
Colorado called catcher Braxton Fulford to join the roster in Bryant’s absence.
