On Sunday, President Trump’s key immigration advisors, Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller, were seen together at a major wedding at Mar-a-Lago, which seemed to signal a united front after a week of public critique between them regarding the ICE actions in Minnesota.
Both Noem and Miller appeared cheerful as they arrived in Florida for the wedding of Dan Scavino, Trump’s deputy chief of staff. Interestingly, they did not show any signs of their recent disagreements concerning last month’s shootings involving immigration agents that resulted in two American deaths.
Noem, who serves as Homeland Security Secretary, had earlier stated that Miller was responsible for labeling anti-ICE protesters Lenny Goode and Alex Pretti as “domestic terrorists,” amid growing backlash from the incident.
Later, she mentioned to Axios that everything she had done was under the president’s direction and Miller’s guidance, perhaps trying to ease tensions after some Republicans called for her resignation.
On the other hand, Miller pointed fingers at staff in Noem’s department for the violent events during the Minnesota protests.
“The personnel sent from the White House to support the [DHS] should ideally handle operations that create a barrier between arrest teams and disruptors,” Miller explained.
He added that they were still looking into whether the Customs and Border Protection team had adhered to proper protocols.
Despite this public spat, the White House insists that the administration’s approach to the immigration operation is cohesive. Perhaps attending the wedding was a way for Noem and Miller to reinforce that unity.
White House Press Secretary Abigail Jackson asserted that the president’s immigration enforcement team works well together, aiming to implement his policies effectively, safeguard American citizens, and deport individuals who are criminal illegal aliens.
