Noem Discusses Immigration and ICE Recruitment Efforts

Secretary of Homeland Security Krisiti Noem had a conversation on Thursday with Glen Beck, co-founder of Blaze Media, about the administration’s approach to deportation and the successes of the new recruitment campaign for the Department of Homeland Security.

Noem highlighted that there’s an important opportunity for citizens to support immigration and customs enforcement in identifying non-citizen criminals. She emphasized that it’s crucial for “hardworking, everyday Americans” to publicly back ICE, especially considering the rising hostility against federal agents.

In a recently proposed law by President Donald Trump, a hefty budget of $76.5 billion has been allocated to ICE. Out of this, around $30 billion is designated for recruiting 100,000 personnel. The goal is to ramp up annual deportations to 1 million individuals.

Noem commented, “It seems to, in a way, give them the green light to act against these people.”

To assist in filling these positions, DHS launched the ICE Recruitment Campaign, which offers eligible applicants a signing bonus that could reach up to $50,000, along with student loan repayment options and other incentives. This past Wednesday, the agency also lifted the age limit to increase eligibility for recruitment.

“We already have over 80,000 applicants for these 10,000 roles, so we’re diving into that to see who qualifies,” Noem shared with Beck.

The overwhelming interest illustrates, according to Noem, that “the American people are in favor of the rule of law, want to help, and wish to engage despite the negative portrayal of ICE by the media and certain political groups.”

However, Noem pointed out that the negative propaganda against ICE—including bold claims about agents acting inappropriately—was alarming. She found the assertions disturbing, particularly allegations about Nazi affiliations.

Responding to Beck’s observation that such rhetoric could lead to violence against officials, Noem revealed, “Just this morning, I saw that attacks on ICE personnel have surged over 1,000% compared to six months ago.”

“The impact of rhetoric cannot be dismissed,” she continued, referencing comments made by certain politicians. “What individuals say holds weight, and such volatile language can lead to real-world consequences. It might encourage those who are already unstable to act out against these individuals.”

DHS disclosed that assaults on ICE agents had spiked 830% between January 21 and July 14 compared to the same timeframe last year.
