Late Wednesday, Russia launched a large-scale air assault across Ukraine, using ballistic missiles and drones. This attack resulted in the deaths of at least three individuals and left several others injured.
Andriy Yahmack, a senior advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, mentioned to the Post that “many people are trapped under the rubble, including children.”
The assault kicked off around 9:30 PM, triggering air raid sirens and emergency shelter alerts in almost every part of the country.
Missiles, drones, and bombs were reported throughout the nation, particularly in Kyiv, but also in western regions, which are not typically targeted.
During the attack, at least four Russian MIG-31 jets, equipped with Kinzhal missiles, were seen taking off, according to reports.
At least three fatalities and multiple injuries have been confirmed in Kyiv. The attack inflicted damage on homes, schools, and offices across the capital.
Yermak described the harrowing scene, with images showing flames erupting from buildings and debris scattered on the streets.
“Rescue teams are working everywhere, yet drones keep flying overhead. Isn’t it clear who Putin is and the value of his words?” Yermak remarked.
He added, “We’ll dig out the buried while the screams of those trapped echo beneath the rubble, and drones hover above.”
In the Darnytskyi district, two apartment buildings were hit, including a five-story structure that collapsed entirely. A nearby kindergarten and another residence also sustained damage, as reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
A three-story office and a 25-story building caught fire, with debris from the kindergarten igniting flames that spread to nearby vehicles.
Other areas, such as Shevchenkivskyi and Solomyanskyi districts, also experienced attacks, resulting in further damage and fires.
Yermak is set to be in New York on Thursday for an introduction of the Ukrainian telecom provider Kyiv Star to NASDAQ and a brief meeting with the U.S. presidential envoy Steve Witkoff, who has been involved in negotiations with Russia regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
He mentioned to the Post that he is contemplating whether to cancel meetings in light of the recent attacks.
“I plan a short meeting just to provide updates, but there hasn’t been any signal of readiness to meet since then,” Yermak noted.
“Every day, figures like [Russian Foreign Minister Sergey] Lavrov make controversial statements.”
Kyiv is working with global leaders to secure a Kremlin agreement for a summit involving the Presidents of Russia and Ukraine, in addition to seeking “NATO-like” security guarantees for post-war Ukraine.
A previous attack on July 29 involving Russian glide bombs and missiles targeted Ukrainian prisons and medical facilities, resulting in at least 21 casualties.
