LA City Council president 'excited' for Trump to visit

Los Angeles City Council President Marquise Harris Dawson said in an interview Sunday that he is looking forward to President-elect Trump's visit to California.

In an interview on MSNBC's “Jonathan Capehart's Sunday Show,” Harris-Dawson added that she hopes the visit will take place before President Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20.

“I'm ready for him and we look forward to seeing him here in the city of Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley and the Pacific Palisades of Pasadena and Altadena,” Harris-Dawson said. When asked if he wanted President Trump to visit the state, he replied:

“We hope he'll be here soon, by the 20th,” he continued. “I know the mayor and governor are working on that, so we’re really looking forward to seeing him here.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) invited President Trump to visit California on Friday, amid ongoing back-and-forth between the two leaders over the response to Southern California's wildfires.

Asked about Newsom's invitation, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance said in an interview over the weekend, “I know the president wants to visit California,” but did not elaborate on specific plans. Ta.

The death toll from Southern California's raging wildfires has soared to 24, with authorities warning that stronger winds could derail progress in containing the fires in the coming days.

The Palisades Fire had burned 23,713 acres and was 14 percent contained by Monday afternoon. The Eaton Fire has burned 14,117 acres and is 33 percent contained. The Hearst Fire is 95% contained and has burned 799 acres. county data.
