LA deputy mayor placed on leave after FBI raids home for allegedly making bomb threat

The deputy mayor of Los Angeles has been placed on administrative leave after an investigation revealed he made a bomb threat to City Hall earlier this year.

FOX 11 in Los Angeles Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Brian Williams' home in Pasadena, California, was searched by the FBI in September in connection with an investigation into a bomb threat against City Hall, the city reported Tuesday. The FBI made no arrests during the raid.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass' office released a statement regarding Williams' leave of absence.

“As part of the investigation into Deputy Mayor Brian Williams, who allegedly made a bomb threat to City Hall earlier this year, the FBI announced yesterday that The mayor's office was notified that his home had been searched.” to Fox News Digital. “He was immediately placed on administrative leave. The Mayor takes this matter very seriously.”

Seidl also said that when the threat was reported, the Los Angeles Police Department investigated the matter and concluded there was no immediate danger to the building.

After further investigation, the LAPD referred the matter to the FBI for investigation.

Police said in a statement that after an investigation, it was determined that Williams was likely the “source of the threat.”

“Due to the department's relationship with Mr. Williams, the investigation was referred to the FBI,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement. “The FBI remains an investigative agency.”

No additional information regarding the ongoing investigation has been released.

Williams began working in Bass' office in March 2023 and was tasked with working with police, fire departments and other critical safety departments, the department reported.
