Teacher Sentenced for Abusing Student
A teacher from Los Angeles has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after calling a 13-year-old rape victim “meth.” Colleen Jo Matariko appeared in court wearing a blue jumpsuit and showed visible signs of distress.
The 44-year-old, whose appearance has changed significantly since her teaching days, pleaded no contest to two counts of lewd behavior with a minor. Other charges against her were dropped.
During the sentencing, Matariko displayed a mix of emotions; she smiled and laughed, but it was a rather inappropriate response given the circumstances. The judge ordered her to refrain from any contact with the victim, referred to as “Jeremiah,” through any means.
It was revealed that Matariko had abused the boy while still employed as a teacher at John Burroughs Middle School. The abuse reportedly took place between August and November 2025, and it included allegations of giving him marijuana. There were claims she expressed a desire to leave her husband for the boy.
When asked if she understood her sentence, Matariko simply responded with “good morning” and “yes.” Her lawyer, Leonard Levine, characterized the situation as “very unfortunate,” stating that she understood her wrongdoings and wouldn’t reach out to the victim again.
Having served 616 days already in county jail, Matariko’s 25-year teaching career has taken a dramatic turn due to her actions.
