Lake Charles physician, wife agree to pay $450K for defrauding Medicare program – KPLC

Lake Charles, La. (KPLC) – The US lawyers' firm announces Lake Charles' doctors, and his wife agrees to pay $450,000 for inappropriate claims for the “P-Stim” device.

Dr. Henry Goolsby, also known as Trip Goolsby, Lake Charles' wife and co-founder Patricia Lenae Goolsby, and its clinic, Infinite Health Integrative Medicine Clinic, have reached a settlement to resolve liability under the False Claims Act.

From November 2018 to April 2020, Dr. Gouldsby, Mrs. Gouldsby, and their clinics requested Medicare for implanted nerve stimulators that require surgical procedures that stimulate the epidural space of the spinal cord. The attorney's office said the procedure must be performed at a surgical center, but Dr. Ghoolsby did not perform the surgery. Instead, these “P-STIM” devices were applied to patients' ears in his office.

Medicare does not cover the use of devices as neurostimulators, such as P-STIM, or as implants of neurostimulator electrodes.

“Incorrectly submit uncovered services and claims for claims [sic] Medicare from the funds needed is an abuse of our healthcare system,” said U.S. Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook. “This type of fraud can debilitate Medicare programs. We will use all available tools to investigate and retain liability for fraudulent federally funded healthcare programs.”
