Lamar Odom Resolves DUI Case

This week, Lamar Odom came to an agreement with prosecutors to wrap up his DUI case.

The ex-Los Angeles Lakers player entered a no contest plea to a single misdemeanor charge of first-offense DUI and/or possession of a controlled substance during a Las Vegas court hearing on Tuesday. Consequently, the speeding and improper lane change charges he was facing were dropped, as per court documents reviewed on Thursday.

After Odom’s plea, the judge indicated that if he adheres to all conditions in the next three months, the DUI charge could be lessened to a reckless driving charge.

To fulfill the conditions, Odom is required to avoid further legal issues, attend DUI education, complete a victim impact panel, pay a $1,000 fine, and perform 67 hours of community service.

Court records also mention that Odom could face 180 days in jail if he incurs new DUI charges during this process or if he is caught driving with a suspended license.

Should he fail to meet the agreed-upon terms, he would formally be convicted of misdemeanor DUI.

“I think this was a fair settlement given the facts of the case,” remarked Odom’s attorney, Kevin Coburn, regarding the plea deal.

This incident traces back to an encounter with a Nevada State Police officer on January 17. Odom was reportedly pulled over on a Las Vegas freeway for speeding—allegedly hitting over 160 mph in a 65 mph zone. The police report indicated that he smelled of marijuana and did not pass a field sobriety test.

Odom, who had a high-profile relationship with Khloé Kardashian and played in the NBA from 1999 to 2013, mentioned in May that he had started a lengthy sobriety journey following his arrest.
