You have to hand it to Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) and other aides to Sen. Mitch McConnell. They really succeeded in solving the illegal immigration crisis. They are just trying to legitimize the invasion.
In exchange for us agreeing to an endless flow of illegal immigrants across our southern border, Democrats will get another $60 billion for Ukraine. Some call it bipartisanship, but we call it disenfranchisement of the forgotten Americans who are always last in the final dismantling of the social compact.
There is no one to blame but ourselves. Until we get serious, the invasion will continue and Republican betrayal will accelerate.
To understand the essential betrayal, Lankford Immigration Agreement, we must admit that under the current law no one is allowed to cross the border. In 2006, Congress overwhelmingly passed the Secure Fence Act. It called on the Secretary of Homeland Security to “take all steps” necessary to “achieve and maintain operational control over the entire land and sea borders of the United States” within 18 months of its passage.
The bill defines “operational control” as “the prevention of all illegal entry into the United States, including entry by terrorists, other illegal aliens, terrorist instruments, narcotics, and other contraband.”
In short, the law requires the Biden administration to stop any aggressors. Instead, the government, in collaboration with the cartels, has orchestrated a steady stream of efforts to thwart efforts to secure Texas’ borders.
Lankford’s bill would allow the Biden administration to reap the benefits of its own crimes. The bill would override current law and bring in millions of illegal aliens, effectively allowing up to 5,000 illegal aliens into the country each day. It explicitly authorizes the Secretary of Homeland Security to issue work permits. In fact, page 41 of the bill states, “If an alien receives a determination of affirmative protection, employment authorization shall be granted to the alien.”
Some of the other important provisions of the bill are listed below.
- The authority to cut off the flow after 5,000 intruders per day will be revoked by the government. discretionary power Biden agreed to suspend the state of emergency.
- Page 27 of the bill requires that asylum seekers “must be released from physical restraint.” This means that “In the case of a foreign national applying for entry, if the examining immigration officer determines that the foreign national applying for entry is clearly not eligible to be permitted to enter the country, the foreign national will be detained. This would destroy the current law that states that thefor [removal] Continue. ” The bill would also give immigration authorities full discretion to detain all people presumed to be in the country illegally “pending a determination whether to deport the alien.” .
- In addition to weakening asylum law by requiring those willing to declare asylum to be released and granted work authorization within six months, the bill also allows the DHS secretary to apply for “urgent humanitarian reasons.” It also makes it possible to grant parole to those who hold it.
- The bill provides $1.29 billion in “Alternatives to Detention” grants, which will provide stipends to NGOs engaged in smuggling to continue harboring and facilitating invasions.
- The bill would further transform Border Patrol agents into babysitters rather than law enforcement agents and require training in “the use of non-lethal force” and “de-escalation strategies and methods.”
- To the extent that states and citizens can challenge Biden’s free asylum decisions made under this bill, all appeals would go to the D.C. Circuit, which is about as free as the 9th Circuit. . This is clearly aimed at taking these cases away from the Texas-based Fifth Circuit.
- This bill would give the Office of Refugee Resettlement an additional $2.3 billion to further empower unscrupulous NGOs to colonize our communities.
- Page 149 of this bill codifies the “Flores Agreement,” which allows illegal aliens to bring children to the border knowing that they must be released because DHS does not have the facilities mandated by a 1997 lawsuit settlement. Encouraging human trafficking beyond the limit. This was a major motivator for invasions not only under the Biden administration, but also under the Trump administration in 2018 and 2019.
- For reasons only known to Allah, Lankford’s bill will invite 50,000 more people with green cards while we deal with border flows. It would also expand the worker visa program to admit more Afghan refugees on top of the 100,000 already approved by Biden.
Lankford’s “compromise” undermines current law, which Democrats since Bill Clinton have continued to ignore anyway, so any “good” in this bill is worthless.
Additionally, the new emergency powers created by the bill would expire 270 days after the law takes effect. This would effectively prohibit the next president from taking advantage of the good parts of the law while being held back by its bad provisions.
As such, the bill cedes border issues to leftist priorities and bequeaths Democrats $60 billion in additional funding, including $300 million for Ukraine’s police force. It also includes $10 billion for Hamas, or as they call it, “Gaza humanitarian aid.”
There is no doubt that Mr. Lankford’s bill will die when it reaches the House of Commons. Nevertheless, it is evidence of widespread and deep betrayal among many red state Republican senators. It also highlights the recklessness of the conservative movement in vetting candidates in states like Oklahoma. No matter what Lankford does, no matter how many principles he betrays, he will continue to enjoy the support of the establishment.
Ten years ago, when Tom Coburn resigned, I warned against Lankford taking over from the House to the Senate. Quoted in The Hill He encouraged more conservative members of Congress to run.
Unfortunately, the entire party circled the carriages around Lankford, leaving the scene for him as there were few others to express their concerns. Then I warned him that he was working on pardons throughout his first term.
Sadly, despite years of betrayal, Lankford was re-elected in 2022 with 64% of the vote. Why wasn’t there a market for a primary challenger? Because Donald Trump gave it to him. Orwellian free supportcalling him “strong on the border and tough on crime,” even though the opposite is true on both counts.
There is no one to blame but ourselves. Until we get serious and focus on the primaries scheduled to begin next month, the invasion will continue and Republican betrayal will accelerate.
