LAPD Refutes Claims of Assisting ICE Agents Amidst Outrageous Crowd

LAPD Denies Assisting ICE During Downtown Raid

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has denied claims that its officers collaborated with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during a recent incident in downtown LA, where police were reportedly attempting to manage volatile situations involving crowds. This denial comes in the context of LA’s status as a “sanctuary city,” where local law enforcement is prohibited from aiding federal immigration enforcement.

According to local reports, the LAPD responded to calls about disturbances in downtown LA, only to find an ongoing ICE operation. Activists seeking to thwart ICE’s actions had gathered, confronting federal agents directly.

In a statement, LAPD officials clarified that while officers initially responded to a report, they quickly recognized the situation as an immigration raid. They then focused on crowd management rather than detaining individuals. The LAPD affirmed that no arrests were made during the encounter.

In their statement, officials noted, “Initial calls indicated that several individuals were trying to detain people without identifying themselves, raising concerns among bystanders.” The report continued, stating that as the situation escalated, officers requested reinforcements to ensure public safety amidst increasing unrest.

Continuing in their defense, LAPD emphasized they were not informed of any pre-planned ICE operations. “The department acted solely on the first report of a possible disturbance,” they added. “No LAPD arrests took place.” Officers remained on-site to help manage the situation, ensuring both pedestrian and traffic safety.

Local officials, predominantly Democrats, have called for an end to ICE actions in the city, raising further tensions around immigration enforcement in LA.
