The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF), which represents over 350,000 members, has endorsed the tax cuts included in President Donald Trump’s proposed legislation, viewing it as a sensible decision.
IAFF President Edward Kelly stated, “Firefighters and emergency medical personnel shouldn’t face penalties for choosing public service careers.” He emphasized the significance of “common-sense tax proposals from President Trump,” which he believes will enhance the quality of life for their members by allowing them to prioritize what truly matters.
Kelly further noted that “President Trump acknowledges the vital contributions of our members and understands the importance of enabling these brave individuals to retain more of their hard-earned income.”
This endorsement arrives as President Trump encourages lawmakers to enact the bill by Independence Day. In a lengthy social media post on Monday, he highlighted the bill’s advantages, such as “the most significant spending cuts ever seen.”
He remarked, “Americans will get to keep more of their income because substantial tax cuts are removing taxes from overtime and Social Security for seniors.”
He aims to “enhance America’s energy landscape” while reinstating strategic oil reserves. He advocates for upgrading air traffic control systems to improve air travel experiences in the U.S. Furthermore, he proposes infrastructure enhancements like building walls for security and tightening immigration enforcement.
Additionally, Trump plans to restrict illegal immigrants from accessing Medicaid and ensure that programs like SNAP are available specifically for Americans. He believes that the proposed law can restore affordable car buying by repealing Biden’s electric vehicle mandate.
The House of Representatives approved the measure on May 22nd, passing it with a narrow vote of 215-214-1.
