Attention, bulk shoppers in Southern California!
The new Costco warehouse in Camarillo is nearing completion, with an official opening set for October 30, 2026.
Recent photos posted by a local news outlet show that the store’s external structure is coming together nicely, which has heightened excitement. As noted, the October opening is just a couple of months away.
This warehouse is being constructed at the western end of the Camarillo Town Center, conveniently located south of the 101 freeway. Spanning 160,000 square feet, it’s expected to feature popular items like bulk groceries, their famous $4.99 rotisserie chickens, an optical department, pharmacy, and food court. There will also be around 900 parking spots and dedicated charging stations for electric vehicles.
Some locals can hardly wait, expressing their eagerness on social media. One person excitedly said, “Yippee… I’m ready to shop for Thanksgiving,” while another mentioned, “Can’t wait for that Kirkland swagger.”
Residents have already had a taste of what’s to come, as Costco opened a 32-pump gas station at the site back in May.
The anticipation has been building for a while. Plans for the warehouse were submitted in 2022, with hopes of opening in 2024. However, the project didn’t proceed smoothly due to legal challenges from a local opposition group. They argued that more extensive environmental reviews were needed. Fortunately, this year, a California appeals court ruled in favor of the city, allowing construction to move forward.
City Manager Greg Ramirez hailed the project as a significant victory for Camarillo. He noted that Costco will enhance shopping convenience for residents, boost the local economy, and create new jobs.
The city’s forecasts suggest the store will significantly impact local shopping habits and quickly rank among the top contributors to sales tax revenue.
