Larry David defends beating up Elmo during ‘Today’ show: ‘I would do it again!’

“Seinfeld” co-creator and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star Larry David has justified his bashing of “Sesame Street” puppet Elmo.

David told Late Night host Seth Meyers that he assaulted the doll on the set of Today because he couldn’t accept the message about mental health for one more second, and that he would do it again if he could. He said that he had declared that he was going to hurt him.

Myers brought up the brawl and said, “You were on the Today show this morning. So was Elmo. You could say Elmo is loved by everyone. What happened to Elmo?” Do you want to talk about it, Larry?”

When Myers brought up the viral clip from NBC’s morning show segment, David seemed confused and fumbling for words.

During a broadcast of “Today,” co-anchor Al Roker gave a quick weather report, while the camera quickly cut to the other anchors and guest Elmo sitting on the couch.

David was seen grabbing Elmo’s face as the doll screamed. The comedian also jumped in character as the show’s hosts looked on in shock.

After squeezing Elmo’s face one more time, David left the set with a smile on his face. The doll shouted after him, “Larry, Elmo has always liked you!” As the co-host processed the scene that had just occurred, the doll called out to David again, I said, “Let’s go back to the couch and talk about how you feel!”

Co-host Savannah Guthrie said to David, “Larry, you’ve gone too far this time,” to which he replied, “Someone had to do it.”

David made the same point when he mentioned how Meyers “restrained” Elmo. He said, “Yes, yes. I did it, Elmo was talking, you understand?” I was waiting to be interviewed and Elmo was talking about mental health so I had to listen to every word. ”

Mocking the doll in a high-pitched voice, he continued, “And I was thinking, ‘Oh my God, my God, I don’t think I can take this anymore!'” into a normal voice. “So I got off my chair, walked up to him and throttled him!” he exclaimed.

“That’s fine,” Myers said, amused.

“I couldn’t resist!” David said, adding, “And you know what? I’d do it again.”

Elmo’s spat comes after the Sesame Street star went viral on the X show this week for asking his 500,000 followers how they were feeling. This innocent question sparked a conversation about mental health on social media, and President Biden felt it was important enough to consider it.
