Israeli Forces Order Evacuation of Gaza City
On Tuesday, Israeli forces mandated a complete evacuation of Gaza city in anticipation of a major military operation.
The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) made this announcement public, stating that remaining in Gaza city—home to nearly half the Gaza Strip’s population—poses significant danger. Residents received messages via air-dropped leaflets, directing them to head west toward the coast before moving south.
“From the old town and east Taffa to the western sea, this is a warning for all Gaza city residents. The IDF is resolute in its mission to defeat Hamas and will exert considerable force in the Gaza city area, similar to its actions throughout the strip,” the IDF stated.
For safety reasons, it urged people to evacuate towards the Almawasi area through the Rashid Axis.
This evacuation order came amidst claims from Hamas that they were using Gaza city for surveillance following recent Israeli airstrikes. Israel’s actions in the region have intensified, and they now control around 40% of the city.
Last month, the Israeli security cabinet approved plans to take control of Gaza city as part of a broader campaign to dismantle Hamas, which had attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu characterized Gaza city as a critical stronghold for Hamas.
“To the residents of Gaza, I urge you to listen carefully. You are being warned—leave immediately!” Netanyahu emphasized.
Out of the 251 individuals captured on October 7, 22 remain under Hamas captivity.
“If Hamas terrorists do not disarm and release all hostages, they will face destruction, and Gaza will suffer,” warned Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz.
In related developments, the United Nations General Assembly endorsed a verbal decision proposing that Saudi Arabia host high-level international discussions regarding administrative solutions for the region on September 22. This has sparked condemnation from the Trump administration.
“The United States will not participate in this affront against the victims of October 7, but we will continue to pursue genuine efforts for peace,” asserted Ting Wu, the UN’s deputy political counselor.
