Perhaps the King misunderstood.
LeBron James made headlines after reacting to the cheering crowd during Team USA’s big win over Brazil in the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics on Tuesday.
But apparently the standing ovation and applause from the fans at the Bercy Arena was not meant for him.
The 39-year-old James waved his hands and mimed putting a crown on his head — his trademark King James gesture — as he sat on the bench and the U.S. took a 32-point lead with under three minutes left in the fourth quarter in a 122-87 victory.
This warm welcome was given to French swimmer Leon Marchand.
Apparently James was shown on the Jumbotron, which may have caused some confusion. According to Larry Brown Sports.
Marchand, who won four gold medals and one silver medal for his country, rose from his seat to thank the crowd.
The 22-year-old swimming star was seen speaking with two others during her appearance on the broadcast.

James had 12 points, nine assists, three rebounds and three steals in the U.S.’ 122-87 win that clinched a spot in the semifinals on Thursday.
He also sustained an elbow injury above his eye, requiring four stitches.
The Americans’ teamwork paid off as Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker and Anthony Davis all scored in double figures.
Durant surpassed four-time gold medalist Lisa Leslie’s U.S. women’s and all-around record of 488 Olympic points to become the leading U.S. Olympian of all time, male or female.
