The progressive group “Indivisible” has been actively involved in organizing Tesla protests lately, aiming to amplify resistance against President Donald Trump in key Congressional districts, both left and right. They’re particularly focused on the race for New York’s 17th District, where Rep. Mike Lawler, a Republican with connections to the group, is being closely monitored. Progressive Democrats, along with Rockland County Councilman Beth Davidson, are also significant players in this landscape.
Davidson often shares content that promotes Indivisible, expressing her intent to participate in events related to the group. She notably featured in a promotional video from an event held in Rockland back in June.
Additionally, the protests organized by local Indivisible chapters in Rockland have been prominent, especially those held during events at Roller Town Hall in the spring.
Reports indicate that Davidson has actively supported progressive candidates in the NYC Democratic primary, aiming to challenge frontrunner figures such as Cuomo.
Recently, local leaders from the Indivisible branch expressed plans for a protest in Rockland, with footage revealing organizing efforts aimed at filling the street in front of the rallies. Davidson previously mentioned on X that more than 1,000 demonstrators had united for a rally, proudly standing together for various causes.
In her statements, she criticized Lawler for not addressing crucial issues like healthcare and education, emphasizing that their group is taking action when he remains silent.
Davidson also condemned recent rally events as “disgraceful,” as they allegedly featured troubling imagery and conspiracy theories, which has caused backlash from Lawler’s campaign representatives. They claim that her association with Indivisible further complicates the race, accusing the group of undermining the Trump agenda.
Indivisible, established to counteract Trump’s presidency, claims to unite various local leaders and members striving for progressive change. The group’s outreach has included significant funding support, including backing from prominent figures such as George Soros.
While many protests have remained peaceful, there have been reports of violence linked to Indivisible activities, leading to serious claims of “domestic terrorism.” Lawler’s spokesperson has called for Davidson to denounce these events and disassociate from any harmful rhetoric or imagery used at rallies.
In response, Davidson has publicly stated her stance against anti-Semitism and criticized Lawler for using her community as a political tool. Lawler has retorted that Davidson’s statements do not reflect genuine progress.
The race for NY-17 is expected to be a critical one as Republicans look to secure their slim majority in Congress, with Cook’s political report designating it as “Lean Republican.” Davidson’s candidacy, among several Democrats in the primary, will be a focal point for the upcoming elections.
