Legendary Yankees manager Joe Torre gives advice to Aaron Boone ahead of World Series

Joe Torre may have managed both the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers, but it's clear where his core interests lie.

The 84-year-old won four World Series championships with the Yankees, but did not return to the Yankees after the 2007 season, ending a seventh consecutive year without a title before heading to Chavez Ravine.

But he only advises one manager: Bronx Bombers captain Aaron Boone.

Torre, of course, managed Boone when the current Yankees manager hit a walk-off home run to send the Yankees to the 2003 World Series, but why did Torre manage him when he stole base in Game 4 of that year in Los Angeles?・I wonder if he would give advice to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. After the Boston Red Sox pulled off a 3-0 comeback?

All kidding aside, Torre's career speaks for itself, and he has some tips for Boone ahead of his first World Series as a manager.

“I'm reminding the coaches of who they are and how to use that experience in the game,” Torre told the New York Post. “I know we are all obsessed with all the analysis and information, especially at this time of year, but I tell them not to give up on their instincts, which are what led them here. I never want to not take advantage of that.”

2024 World Series Odds: Dodgers favor Yankees

Yankees fans blindly criticize Boone at every opportunity, but Torre says that criticism is not necessarily justified.

“He's the third generation in the majors, along with his father.” [Bob] and grandfather [Ray]. “There's nothing Aaron hasn't seen before. But there's a difference between the World Series and the playoffs. You go from a marathon to a sprint.”

“He knows how.”

Another piece of advice: Don't miss the moment.

“We have to control the game and not get overwhelmed by everything that's going on,” Torre said. “If you leave it alone, it will become stressful.”

The World Series begins Friday night at 8:08 p.m. on FOX.
