NORFOLK, Va.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is reportedly harboring a second family of felons at her Virginia property. There are claims suggesting that she, along with her sister, may have been involved in a related criminal activity.

James’ grandniece, Kayla Thompson-Hairston, 21, who is active on OnlyFans and social media, faces charges for allegedly misrepresenting her felony record while attempting to purchase a gun in Suffolk, Virginia, in April 2024.

In August 2020, Kayla was officially prohibited from owning a firearm due to a felony conviction for inflicting serious bodily injury. Virginia law outlines this as a crime involving intentional harm against another person, like shooting or stabbing.

She was still a minor when this conviction occurred, and the details of her case remain sealed. Court documents suggest that Kayla was also engaged in criminal activities alongside her older sister Nikia Thompson, 36, back in 2019 at just 15 years old. Nikia is currently wanted in North Carolina, and there have been numerous arrests associated with her.

Kayla’s social media frequently displays provocative imagery, and she has also shared recent news about her pregnancy alongside videos where she dances while exposing her belly.

Both families, including Kayla and Nikia, reside in a home owned by James, which is the focal point of a federal investigation regarding mortgage documents signed by her. Presently, James faces up to 60 years in prison on charges of bank fraud and making false statements related to a mortgage application for the property.

James acquired the house for $137,000 in 2020, claiming it to be her “second home” where she intends to reside primarily. However, federal investigators allege that she allowed Mr. Thompson to move in, accepted rent shortly after the purchase, and profited from misleading interest rates on the mortgage.

Legal Troubles Intensify

James has denied any wrongdoing. Additionally, Thompson informed a federal grand jury that she lives in the property without paying rent. Neighbors in the area, who have seen little of James, indicate she is covering repair costs but isn’t a permanent resident.

Kayla previously lived in another house owned by James, which came under scrutiny following a criminal referral to the Justice Department in April. Accusations are surfacing that James signed mortgage documents listing the house as her “principal residence,” despite working over 300 miles away.

James has stated she co-signed a mortgage alongside her niece Shamieth Thompson-Hairston, who lives in the home full-time, but she later amended the documents to clarify that she would not be residing there.

Shamieth, mother of Kayla, also has two children living with her. Previous incidents have linked Thompson and Kayla to an alleged theft operation at Macy’s and Dillard’s in 2019, with further records showing Thompson’s endangerment of minors during her criminal activities.

In the end, Thompson pled guilty to petty and grand larceny, receiving a probationary sentence. Charges for Kayla related to her gun purchase attempt were dismissed.

More recently, James faced federal charges for allegedly falsifying her mortgage information to secure a favorable rate when purchasing her home in 2023. Documents reportedly indicate her assertions of the house being her primary residence, raising further questions given her professional commitments.

James’ attorney, Abby Rowell, has criticized what she describes as a baseless and hypocritical attack linked to Trump’s ongoing legal troubles. Rowell claims that any errors made were purely clerical.

Amidst these allegations, James was indicted last week on bank fraud charges, accused of providing false information about the occupancy of her second home to obtain better loan terms.

If found guilty on these charges, James could face decades behind bars. She maintains her innocence and has promised to contest the claims fiercely.

A representative for James did not respond to comments regarding the fresh allegations as of Wednesday.
