Liberals embrace borders and ID checks while blocking ICE in Minnesota.

Many American liberals tend to shift their strongly held beliefs to fit political contexts, often in unexpected ways.

Take the question of what defines a woman. The mantra “Believe all women” was wielded as a political weapon against Republicans; yet, if those women pose a threat to a presidential run in 2020, suddenly the phrase seems to need an asterisk.

Liberals expressed concern about the erosion of birthright citizenship after framing the unborn as mere clusters of cells, with termination through abortion seen almost positively. Last year, the discussion shifted to acknowledging that unborn children might deserve some legal safeguards.

Now, once again, liberals seem to be suspending their usual principles, this time regarding border control and understanding who is entering the country.

In Minneapolis, evidently aimed at curbing the arrests of noncitizens by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, some community members have set up makeshift checkpoints to request identification from people passing through.

An activist advocating against ICE claimed this was an initiative for “public safety,” asserting that it aims to ward off trespassers assumed to be damaging the neighborhood.

Kelly Piatt, a local resident, shared her perspective with local media, expressing appreciation for the safety measures being taken. “It feels good knowing that people are looking out for us,” she remarked earnestly.

Another resident, Wade Haynes, also noted the added safety from having neighbors vigilant about unusual vehicles. He commented, “It’s reassuring—makes you feel like someone cares.”

After local authorities dismantled the checkpoint, Piatt vowed, “We’ll do this again; keeping our community safe is our priority.”

Critics argue that these actions, while intended to protect the neighborhood, closely resemble the practices ICE is routinely criticized for at a national level—securing borders and knowing who is entering and exiting.

Second Amendment advocate Kyle Rittenhouse reflected on the matter, stating, “Just imagine if there were clear boundaries and everyone in the community was identifiable. It would be known who belongs.”

In a humorous tone, social media reacts suggested, “The ironic meter has melted.” This seems to highlight the contradictions in liberal practices.

Mike Davis, founder of the Article III project, took a more provocative stance, asserting that liberal critics are less astute than others in the community.

Moreover, former border official Tom Homan remarked on the barricades’ removal, stating that police had been informed and were expected to take action against such neighborhood measures.
