The defense of the new restrictions proposed by Republican lawmakers has infuriated many liberal critics of social media, which has been hit by cuts in spending.
Texas Republican Rep. Pat Fallon was speaking on Fox News about a new House bill that would add job requirements for successful childless men between the ages of 18 and 65. Fallon is a member of the Oversight Committee.
“You're actually going to contribute now, as American taxpayers are tired of them!”
“What do you know? We have a message for those people. If you're healthy and want to milk taxpayers, the day is over,” Fallon said. “Get off the couch, stop eating cheats, stop buying medical marijuana and watch TV. You're actually going to contribute because American taxpayers are tired of it!”
He went on to point out that federal debt has grown to the point that the government is paying as much for interest on debt as we are defence spending.
“If we don't change courses, we'll lose this great republic!” he added.
The video of his comments was posted on social media, with many people on the left expressing their anger.
“This man should absolutely be ashamed of himself. He should have access to his salary and everything [sic] Money should be suspended for 60 days and then reassess the cruelty and inhumanity of this statement. Popular response.
