Libertarian Party Chooses Nominee Who Supports Open Borders, Trans Policies

The Libertarian Party chose its presidential candidate after a convention that featured a highly publicized speech from former President Donald Trump, and nominated a gay man with a history of left-leaning positions who supports open borders and drag queen story hours for children.

Both President Trump and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. spoke at the Libertarian Convention, but the party ultimately nominated party activist Chase Oliver as its presidential candidate.

“I did it! I’m officially a presidential candidate. But the job’s not done yet. Help me nominate my running mate, @terMaatMike,” said Oliver, who ran in a stalled 2020 Georgia Senate race.

“There is no better unifying candidate in this party. Now is the time to come together and move forward for freedom,” he added.

But others point to social media posts and videos that have already highlighted Oliver’s extreme positions and left many uneasy.

In a February 2023 post, Oliver took issue with Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signing a bill banning medical “treatment” for transgender children.

“This puts the government between parents and the doctors who provide their health care. The options for young people in Mississippi have simply been limited by the Legislature, not by doctors or mental health professionals,” he said.

In another post circulating on social media, Oliver appeared to defend drag queens who read to children at “Drag Queen Story Hours,” claiming that many of them are simply performance artists who “want to perform on different levels” and comparing them to the Wiggles. He later hypothesized that he would take his own children to a story hour led by drag queens:

In another video, Oliver made the case for open borders.

Other posts indicate he supports wearing masks.

In a 2023 interview, Oliver concluded that the United States was “over-crime” and lamented the War on Drugs. In the same interview, Oliver said the 2024 elections would be “a unique opportunity for our party to break into the mainstream.”

“We have stood for self-expression, self-ownership and autonomy since we were founded in 1971, just two years after the Stonewall massacre,” Oliver said. Said.

“It took Democrats decades to catch up because they had to wait until it was politically popular. … If there’s one thing I know about LGBTQ people, it’s that we want to follow our own path and don’t want to be told who we should be or how we should live,” he continued.

Oliver also appears to be opposed to protecting fairness in women’s sports.

Some people questioned the Libertarian Party’s decision.

The choice came after Trump appeared at the convention, argued with the crowd and simply told them to support him “if they want to win.”

If not, “keep getting 3% every four years,” he added.
