Historian and political scientist Alan Lichtman told NewsNation's “Cuomo” on Tuesday that his election prediction that Vice President Harris would win the presidency was wrong because of conservative media disinformation and billionaires. blamed Elon Musk.
Lichtman said, “As I said, things can go wrong. Unprecedented events can occur that change the pattern of 160 years of history. That's what happened here.”
He continued, “First of all, disinformation. We've always had disinformation, but disinformation has exploded in an unprecedented way. You talk about grievance elections. But many of those complaints were driven by disinformation, starting in the tens of millions with Fox News and conservative media. A conservative podcaster with views. But this time we saw something completely new – $300 millionaire Elon Musk put his thumb on the scale through his management of X (formerly Twitter). His misinformation reportedly received billions, literally billions of views.
Lichtman continued, “As scholars have shown, once you dismantle truth, you dismantle democracy with it. “Not by force, but by force,” he added. As George Orwell warned in 1984, information manipulation means that in that dictatorship, war is peace and there is enough hunger. ”
